Turkish Superliga leaders Besiktas were good value for their early advantage last week as they caused problems from the outset by getting balls into the box before former Liverpool striker Ryan Babel slotted them in front.

Fabricio’s schoolboy error for the winner may have been a one-off but Besiktas haven’t kept a clean sheet in five Champions League and Europa League matches at their new stadium and will be vulnerable again to Lyon’s pace and power up front.

Lyon can expect a red-hot reception in Istanbul after their first encounter with Besiktas was marred by crowd trouble but Bruno Genesio’s side have already shown they can go to tough venues and get a result this term.

On the domestic front, they will also take heart from a 3-1 triumph at Monaco and led for half an hour at PSG, so this is not a team which suffers from travel sickness.
