Manchester United were second best for much of the first leg against Atletico Madrid but returned to Old Trafford level at 1-1 thanks to a late equaliser.
They are now firm favourites at 1.42 to reach the Champions League quarter-finals but those odds look too short based on the first leg and the recent form of both teams.
We’re not expecting a routine win for the Red Devils and the Spaniards look good value to progress at 2.65 as our opening Man Utd vs Atletico Madrid prediction.
Manchester United Odds
Super sub Anthony Elanga spared United’s blushes with a late equaliser at the Wanda Metropolitano after they had once again underwhelmed.
Teenage substitute Elanga cancelled out Joao Felix’s early bullet header to secure Ralf Rangnick’s men what could prove to be an important draw but United floundered for much of the night.
Felix’s thundering early header gave Atleti a seventh-minute lead and cumbersome United were breathing a sigh of relief when Sime Vrsaljko hit the crossbar just before the break, while Antoine Griezmann also rattled the woodwork as Diego Simeone’s Atleti pushed for a late winner.
United will now look to make the most of home advantage in the second leg but Old Trafford has hardly been a fortress in recent times.
An FA Cup exit at the hands of Middlesbrough here last month has been followed by draws with Southampton and Watford in the Premier League while Wolves left with all three points in January.
Scoring goals has been United’s biggest issue and looking at the Man Utd vs Atletico Madrid odds, we like the look of a draw or an away win after 90 minutes plus under 3.5 goals at 2.15.
Atletico Madrid Odds
Atletico will hope they do not come to regret the chances they missed in the first leg when they could have taken control of the tie.
There was certainly plenty to like about the performance and Simeone said: “I’m really happy with the game we played. We did enough to win and it’s all to play for.”
Simeone took his team to Anfield and knocked Liverpool out of the competition at the same stage two years ago so will not fear a United team which has shown little, if any, sign of improvement since Rangnick took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Scoring goals on their travels has not been an issue for Atletico recently either and they were 3-1 winners at fellow top-four hopefuls Real Betis in their last away game, having won 3-0 at Osasuna last month.
For the last of our Man Utd vs Atletico Madrid betting tips, we’re backing Atletico to win and both teams to score at 7.75.
