Philadelphia Flyers vs Edmonton Oilers predictions

Face-off: 1900 ET, 01/03/2022

Arena: Wells Fargo Center

Edmonton have lost three of their last four matches but they were all against teams heading for the playoffs and Philadelphia represent a drop in class.

The Flyers are third from bottom in the Eastern Conference and 23 points adrift of a wild card spot, so this is the kind of game the Oilers should win.

We’re happy to take 1.85 for an away victory in regular time in our Philadelphia Flyers vs Edmonton Oilers predictions.

Philadelphia Flyers Odds

To be fair, Philadelphia are still out there fighting and enjoyed a good 2-1 win over Washington at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday.

Claude Giroux and Cam Atkinson netted for the Flyers, while Carter Hart made 27 saves after returning from an eye infection.

Head coach Mike Yeo declared: “Guys competed extremely hard, the emotion was there. Obviously, the physicality was there.

“Great start and it was big getting the win – maybe we can start to build some confidence.”

That triumph did come after six straight defeats, but Philadelphia had managed 16 goals in those losses, so the problems are not in their forward play.

Looking at the NHL odds for this match, that pushes us towards 3.2 for an away success and both teams to score at least twice.

Edmonton Oilers Odds

Edmonton are on game four of a five-match road trip and will hope to find the company more conducive in Philadelphia tonight and Chicago on Wednesday.

The Oilers were beaten 5-3 at Tampa Bay, bravely battled for a 4-3 win at Florida and then only went down 2-1 at Carolina.

After heading north, forward Zach Hyman said: “We came away with one out of three. We wanted more, but I thought we played well in all those games.

“Later on, when it gets down to the nitty-gritty in the playoffs, games are tight, teams are good. This was a big learning experience for us and we’ll be better moving forward.”

Derek Ryan has scored four times in the last couple of games to overshadow the usual star duo of Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, who needed dental work during Sunday’s clash with the Hurricanes.

Being without Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jesse Puljujarvi is a double blow for Edmonton, but we’re hoping they have the strength in depth to cope.

It could be close, but it is worth noting that the Broad Street Bullies have conceded 15 empty-net goals this term, only behind Detroit and Seattle.

With that in mind, let’s go with 7.0 for an Edmonton win by exactly two goals to complete our Flyers vs Oilers predictions.
