The Minnesota Wild will look to make their game in hand count as they look to solidify second place in the Central Division.
The Edmonton Oilers had a six-game winning streak ended on Saturday by the league-leading Colorado Avalanche in a shootout and look to get back to winning ways in a vital Western Conference match-up.
With both teams needing a victory as the playoff race hots up, overtime at 4.10 may be needed to separate these two and is our opening Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers prediction.
Minnesota Wild Odds
The Minnesota Wild will put a nine-game point streak on the line when they host the Oilers for the first time this season.
The Wild won both games in Edmonton this season and erased an early 3-0 deficit to beat the Los Angeles Kings 6-3 last time out.
Matt Boldy hopes the Wild can put that start behind them against the powerful offence of the Oilers and come out ready to play.
“I think it was a little bit of a slow start for sure, obviously not what we want to start a game, giving up three,” Boldy said.
“But just looking how we played after and our response to it was good, and what you want to see.”
The Wild will be wary of the Edmonton offence and will not make the same mistake twice. Looking at the Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers odds, the Wild are fancied to win the first period with both teams scoring at 7.50.
Edmonton Oilers Odds
The Oilers have a seven-game point streak of their own going that has helped them climb into second place in the Pacific Division.
Edmonton are four points clear of the Kings in third with a game in hand and six points ahead of the Vegas Golden Knights, who currently sit outside the playoffs.
Goaltender Mikko Koskinen shone against the Avalanche, making 33 saves on 34 shots, and coach Jay Woodcroft has been impressed by the tandem of Koskinen and Mike Smith.
Woodcroft is left with a tough choice of which goalie to go with and said: “Ever since I’ve been here, both goaltenders are proving that they want the net.
“Our plan is to take it one game at a time… both our goaltenders looked good in practice, but to come out and lay down a hard and fast plan of ‘this is how it’s going to go down the stretch’, that’s not how we’re looking at it.”
With so much to play for, the third period having the most goals at 2.35 is added to our Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers betting tips.
