The golfing year is almost over but there is one elite event left and we have studied the odds to choose our Hero World Challenge picks.
There are only 20 players competing at the invitational event at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas, which is not part of the PGA Tour but there are world ranking points up for grabs and $1million for the winner.
Here are our 2021 Hero World Challenge betting tips for the tournament which is being hosted by Tiger Woods.
COLLIN MORIKAWA TO WIN @ 8.50
Morikawa and Rory McIlroy are the joint favourites this week and a strong case can be made for either, but we’re going with the American.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed an incredible year and can end it by replacing Jon Rahm as the world number one if he wins this week.
He won the DP World Tour Championship two weeks ago, finishing three shots clear of his nearest rival and five ahead of McIlroy.
Morikawa is also the British Open champion and given that this is a links-style course, he ticks most of the boxes when we’re looking for the winner.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER TO FINISH IN THE TOP FIVE @ 2.80
Few would argue that Scheffler is currently the best player in the world without a PGA Tour title to his name.
He is unable to rectify that this week but can certainly prove that he belongs in such elite company, which would set him up well for 2022.
His stunning 4&3 victory over Rahm in the singles at the Ryder Cup highlighted what he is capable of on a course which should suit the same strengths.
Scheffler disappointed at the RSM Classic last time out but had previously finished fourth at the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico and tied for second at the Houston Open, so a return to that form does not look out of the equation.
JUSTIN ROSE TOP ENGLISH PLAYER @ 3.00
There are three players in this market and Rose is the outsider behind Matt Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton but local knowledge means he is worth keeping onside in our Hero World Challenge picks.
Rose spent 10 years living in the Bahamas until moving back to the UK last year and has relished playing here, finishing in the top five in the last three editions of this tournament, including when third in 2018.
It has been a poor year by his high standards and Rose is in danger of dropping out of the world’s top 50 but this looks a good opportunity to gain some much-needed ranking points.
Some of his recent performances, including T12 at the RSM Classic two weeks ago, also suggest his form is heading in the right direction.
