The league season in Romania starts quite early for a European championship, as by mid-July, the Liga 1 teams are already on the pitch playing official matches of the league season.
Composed of 16 teams, the Romanian championship is played in two phases. With the end of the first part of the season, after 30 games, the championship is split in two.
