CAN qualifications
The Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers begin with a quick preliminary round where the 12 lowest-ranked teams battle it out in two-legged matches. Six winners advance to a group stage to join 42 nations that enter directly. The group stage draw has taken place, and forty-eight African nations were drawn into twelve groups of four teams.
One of the most competitive tournaments in international football, the CAN is always a roller coaster ride, including the state of the pitches. Due to the vastness of Africa, the qualification phase always has some tricky international matches. Make your football bets on these exciting matches where African nations will put their best formations on the field to try and reach the final stages of the competition.
Betting on the African Cup of Nations qualifiers
The Confederation of African Football has decided that the placement of the 48 countries in four pots of 12 will be determined by the latest FIFA rankings and not by past African Cup of Nations performances.
The top two teams from each group qualify for the finals, except for the host country's group. They get an automatic place in the tournament's final phase but still participate in the qualifiers. In their group, only one other team will qualify for the competition to be held in June next year. Make your bets on the CAN on our platform.
Qualifiers for the next CAN take place every two years
The schedule is spread over several weeks, with 2-3 matches each day and a total of 51 matches. On each qualifying day of the African Cup of Nations, there will be several matches daily at 3 pm, 6 pm or 9 pm. Thus, we recommend placing your live bets on the same day and depending on the results.
The head-to-head results will certainly be decisive. Forty-eight nations will qualify for the competition, and in the end, only one team will lift the trophy for the best African football nation.
The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is the biennial international men's football championship in Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Some groups have two qualifiers out of three teams
Some nations (Kenya and Zimbabwe) have still been included in the qualifiers despite being suspended by FIFA due to local government interference in the management of their football associations.
CAF said that if the suspensions of the countries concerned were not lifted a fortnight before the start of the qualifiers, both national teams would be eliminated from the competition. Consequently, their groups would only consist of three teams, with the group winner and runners-up qualifying for the finals.
