Champions League predictions & tips: Leipzig & Real Madrid to draw

bwin, ahead of the return of Europe’s biggest club competition, takes you through its Champions League predictions and betting tips.

The Champions League is back tonight, with Copenhagen hosting Manchester City and Real Madrid travelling to Germany for an away fixture against RB Leipzig in what has all the makings of one of the games of the tournament so far.

Man City and Real Madrid are two of the favourites for the competition, and while we’re going for a win for Pep Guardiola’s side, things could end up being a little tricky for Jude Bellingham and co…

The following night, Bayern Munich host an out-of-form Lazio side, hoping to get back to winning ways after their title hopes were majorly dented by a 3-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend. Also, a rather exciting Real Sociedad side travel to PSG, hoping to cause an upset that’ll be spoken about for years.

Champions League predictions

Man City to beat Copenhagen – 0.24/1

It won’t come as too much of a surprise to hear that we’re going with a win for Man City, despite them being draw away from home, against Copenhagen in the first knockout round of the Champions League.

With odds of 2/1, City are the favourites for the competition, and they’ve been drawn against Danish side Copenhagen, who as the weakest team left standing, are at 500/1 to be crowned winners of the Champions League come June 2024.

City have simply too much power to struggle against Copenhagen, despite their impressive performances in the group stage which saw them beat Man United. Expect utter domination here, so much so that a bet of City to win and over 2.5 goals being scored, with odds of 2.75/1 could be worth a punt.

Real Madrid to draw with RB Leipzig – 2.7/1

Things won’t be easy for Real Madrid in Germany, despite being one of the favourites to win the Champions League, so we’re going for a draw as our prediction for Los Blancos’ trip to RB Leipzig tonight.

Leipzig have been somewhat disappointing this year, sitting in fifth place in the Bundesliga. However, they’re still an incredibly exciting team to watch, with some truly mouth-watering attack talent on their books. They have lost some key players, but they’ll still prove to be a handful for Real Madrid in the Champions League.

A win for the German side may be too much here, but bwin is predicting a draw between the two sides in the first leg of the first knockout round, with odds of 2.7/1. To make things even more interesting, you could go for a draw with both teams scoring, with odds of 2.91/1.

Bayern Munich to beat Lazio – 0.65/1

As noted, Lazio are massively out of form at the moment, so don’t be surprised to see them lose (and quite comfortably so) to Bayern Munich tomorrow night in the Champions League.

Bayern may be five points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, but Thomas Tuchel and co will be eyeing up the Champions League as a major opportunity for them to win a trophy and remind fans that they’re still one of the world’s best teams.

They have some top talent on their books too, including Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane, and of course, Harry Kane. Expect them to be too much for Lazio, so much so that a bet of Bayern Munich to win without conceding, with odds of 1.85/1, could be worth a punt.

Real Sociedad to draw with PSG – 2.75/1

PSG only narrowly made it into the Champions League knockout round, relying on a controversial VAR call in their game against Newcastle to make it to the last 16.

Real Sociedad, on the other hand, impressed majorly in their group, managing to finish as group winners ahead of last year’s runners-up, Inter Milan.

The game may be at home, but we’re not expecting PSG to walk away with it, so much so that we’re going with a bet of a draw, with odds of 2.75/1, for our Champions League predictions and betting tips.

A bet of both teams to score in a draw, with odds of 3.6/1, is quite interesting here too.

Champions League betting tips

Lois Openda to score – 1.3/1

Leipzig’s exciting Belgian forward is in good form this season, averaging a goal every 81 minutes since joining from France in the summer. If Leipzig are to get anything from the game against Real Madrid tonight, then Lois Openda will be central to that.

Openda scored three goals in Leipzig’s two games against Man City in the group stage, so he’s got a knack for scoring against the biggest teams on the biggest stage, and we’re pegging him to do the same against the competition’s most decorated side.

Erling Haaland to score two or more goals – 3.2/1

Haaland was back in the goals against Everton, scoring two against the Toffees, taking his tally to 21 goals in 25 games in all competitions for his club this season.

As he looks to get up to full match fitness, Haaland is likely to start against Copenhagen tonight, and if he does, expect to see the big striker find the back of the net once again.

In fact, with odds of 3.2/1, we’re going with Haaland scoring two or more goals in the first leg of the first knockout round of the Champions League, just as he did against Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Harry Kane to score two or more goals – 4/1

Just like Erling Haaland, we’re going with Harry Kane to score two or more goals for our next tip, with odds of 4/1.

Kane will be looking to get back on the scoresheet after failing to find the back of the net against Leverkusen on the weekend.

The Englishman might not end his season with a Bundesliga title, with Bayern now five points behind the league leaders, so he’ll be more motivated than ever to deliver his side their first Champions League since 2020.

That’s it for our Champions League predictions and betting tips, but bwin recently broke down the favourites for the competition this season, looking at the chances that Arsenal, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Man City and others have one being crowned Europe’s best team come June 2024.

Below is a list of the Champions League betting odds for all 16 of the teams in the competition, ranging from the Man City, the favourites, all the way to Copenhagen, who the bookies view as the weakest team left in the competition.

  3. Real Madrid – 11/2
