RB Leipzig vs Tottenham: Spurs may struggle again

Kick-off: 2000, 10/03/2020

Stadium: Red Bull Arena

TV: BT Sport

RB Leipzig look to be holding all the aces against an injury-hit Tottenham ahead of the second leg of their Champions League tie in Germany.

Only Timo Werner’s 58th-minute penalty separated these sides in London, but the Bundesliga outfit looked much the better team for large parts of that contest.

We’re backing Julian Nagelsmann’s men to lead at half-time and full-time on home turf at 27/20 for our initial RB Leipzig vs Tottenham prediction.

A Look At RB Leipzig’s Betting Odds

Leipzig dominated from the outset in the opening encounter and claimed a deserved victory after Ben Davies gave the spot-kick away with a clumsy challenge on Konrad Laimer.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was man of the match and the tie would be over had he not made a number of important saves.

Nagelsmann was delighted with his young players and the mature performance they produced in front of more than 60,000 spectators.

He said: “I think it was a bit tricky in the end because we didn’t score the second goal.

“But over the 90 minutes, apart from one chance, I think we controlled the game, with a lot of good possession.

“Young teams often become impatient and think you have to score an early goal, but they weren’t like that and they defended well against Tottenham’s counter-attacking game.”

Leipzig were far from convincing at Red Bull Arena during the group stage, losing 2-0 to Lyon at this venue and only drawing 2-2 with Benfica, so Tottenham may get chances.

However, it is hard to get away from how much sharper than Spurs they looked in the first leg.

We reckon 11/5 for a home win and both teams to score stands out from the RB Leipzig vs Tottenham odds.

A Look At Tottenham Hotspur’s Betting Odds

Tottenham have a mountain to climb without injured front men Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, but did have their moments in London.

Steven Bergwijn and the impressive Giovani Lo Celso tested Peter Gulacsi, before Lucas Moura headed over late on.

“It’s not 10-0 and the result is still open,” Jose Mourinho insisted. “It’s as simple as that.

“We wouldn’t be the first team to lose 1-0 at home and then win the tie away. So why shouldn’t we believe?”

Tottenham’s run to last year’s final was full of drama and late turnarounds, notably the semi-final, where they lost the home leg 1-0 to Ajax before a memorable 3-2 triumph in Amsterdam.

Borussia Dortmund were also beaten in Germany and Spurs scored three goals at Manchester City to progress.

“The last two years we’ve had our adversity in the Champions League and we’ve somehow found ways of proving everybody wrong,” added Harry Winks.

“It’s going to be a difficult task, as they’re a good side and going there is never going to be easy, but we strongly believe that we can go there and cause an upset.”

Opening up will leave them vulnerable, though, so we like 27/10 for Spurs to lose and over 3.5 goals to be scored in the return fixture to complete our RB Leipzig vs Tottenham betting tips.
