Kick Off: 1800, 08/06/2018

Stadium: Cornaredo Stadium

Switzerland have only lost once in 12 games since the start of last year and are worthy favourites to edge out Japan on home turf in Friday’s World Cup warm-up match.

The Samurai Blue have been far from impressive in recent friendlies, including last week’s 2-0 loss to Ghana in Yokohama.

We’re taking 31/20 for the hosts to lead at half-time and full-time in our Switzerland vs Japan betting tips.

A Look At Switzerland’s Betting Odds

Switzerland only just beat Northern Ireland 1-0 on aggregate in a two-legged play-off to reach Russia 2018, but they had done well in their qualifying group.

Starting out with nine straight wins would have been enough to wrap up most pools, but a 2-0 loss to Portugal in the final round of fixtures pushed them down to second.

Vladimir Petkovic’s side have also picked up some good results in friendlies this year, seeing off Greece and Panama before a 1-1 draw with Spain in Villarreal.

The Red Crusaders did benefit from a rare David de Gea error allowing AC Milan defender Ricardo Rodriguez to grab an equaliser, but it was still an encouraging effort.

Proven performers such as Stoke midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, Benfica striker Haris Seferovic and Arsenal-bound wing-back Stephan Lichtsteiner give this team a very solid feel.

Looking at the Switzerland vs Japan odds, we’re on the hosts to win to nil at 27/20.

A Look At Japan’s Betting Odds

Japan will be competing at their sixth straight World Cup but this does not look a vintage Samurai Blue squad.

Akira Nishino’s side managed to top their Asian qualifying section, with last August’s 2-0 triumph over Australia in Saitama clinching a trip to Russia.

However, they finished just a point above the Socceroos and Saudi Arabia following a mixed bag of results.

Keisuke Honda and Shinji Kagawa are still around to spearhead the forward play, but this year’s friendly results do not augur well.

March’s double-header in Belgium saw Japan draw 1-1 with Mali and lose 2-1 to the Ukraine, while the recent defeat to Ghana was another blow to morale.

We’re finishing off our Switzerland vs Japan betting predictions by taking 6/1 for a 2-0 home win in Lugano.
