Liverpool had little trouble accounting for Rangers at Anfield despite not hitting top gear and can confirm their superiority in Glasgow.
However, the Reds have generally looked shaky at the back this term and the hosts will hope to at least grab a first Champions League goal here.
Punters can get 8/5 for an away win and both teams to score and that is our opening Rangers vs Liverpool prediction.
Rangers Odds
Rangers performed admirably to reach the Europa League final last term but have found returning to this level for the first time in over a decade a struggle.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side kicked off with a 4-0 defeat when visiting Ajax before going down 3-0 at home to Napoli.
Thousands of supporters made the trip to Merseyside but the Gers were outplayed and only went close late on when Rabbi Matondo’s effort was cleared off the line.
However, Van Bronckhorst is adamant that the Light Blues will benefit from the experience of facing such European superpowers.
“I think we keep improving in the Champions League level if you look at our first game against Ajax until the game against Liverpool,” said the Ibrox boss.
“As a team, we will become stronger and that is really good to take back to the league and domestic cup competitions.”
That view has been backed up by three straight Scottish Premiership wins, including 4-0 drubbings of Hearts and St Mirren.
Antonio Colak bagged a brace in each of those victories to make it 13 goals in 16 games in all competitions.
The Croatian forward is 13/5 to hit the target here in the Rangers vs Liverpool odds.
Liverpool Odds
Liverpool’s Premier League problems deepened after Sunday’s 3-2 loss at Arsenal left them 10th in the table, 14 points adrift of the Gunners.
The Reds twice came from behind at Emirates Stadium through Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino, but had no answer to Bukayo Saka’s 76th-minute penalty.
Jurgen Klopp admitted his side “have problems at the moment”, but did praise the spirit shown in a cracking contest.
“Even in a really bad situation for us with early changes, we caused them real problems, so that’s the truth as well,” insisted the German.
“Of course, in a situation like ours, we play Arsenal, now we play Rangers and then we play Manchester City. Is that the perfect opponent for finding confidence back? Probably not.
“But we will go out there and fight and that’s what we have to do and that’s what we will do.”
Liverpool are at least on course to reach the knockout rounds of this competition, beating Ajax and Rangers since starting out with a 4-1 loss at Napoli.
Mohamed Salah seems to be saving his best efforts for the Champions League, scoring in both of those triumphs.
Let’s add 7/2 for him to break the deadlock and the visitors to prevail to our Rangers vs Liverpool betting tips, with the Reds also backed to win 3-1 at 9/1.
