Liverpool kick-off their bid to go one better than last season’s Champions League effort with a mouth-watering Group C match at home to PSG.
Jurgen Klopp’s side impressed at Anfield in the latter stages of Europe’s elite competition before losing out to Real Madrid in the final.
With their French opponents sometimes looking fragile on the road, we reckon 6/5 for the Reds to prevail is the way to go with our first Liverpool vs PSG prediction.
A Look At Liverpool’s Betting Odds
Liverpool stormed to a 3-0 win versus Manchester City on Merseyside in the quarter-finals last term and then crushed Roma 5-2 here in the semis.
The atmosphere generated by the Kopites on those two occasions was electric and Klopp will be hoping for more of the same.
Most pundits agree that the Reds are even stronger this season, with Virgil van Dijk now fully settled in at the back and new arrivals Alisson and Naby Keita already impressing.
That view is backed up by a perfect start to the Premier League campaign, with Saturday’s 2-1 success against Tottenham at Wembley making it five straight wins.
Klopp said: “We’ve improved and this was by far our best performance of the season, so I like that development. Now we have to do it again and again.”
Fast-flowing football going forward is still the key to their success, though, and the occasional defensive slip remains possible.
Klopp is hopeful Roberto Firmino will be fit after the Brazilian forward suffered an eye injury at Wembley, with Daniel Sturridge on stand-by.
A Look At Paris Saint-Germain’s Betting Odds
PSG have suffered from some poor draws at the last-16 stage for the past couple of seasons, going out to Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Emphatic away defeats of 6-1 at Camp Nou and 3-1 at the Bernabeu raise alarm bells over how well this talented team travels.
The French side have also struggled defensively in some big fixtures during the group stages, drawing 2-2 at Arsenal two years ago and losing 3-1 at Bayern Munich last term.
We can’t see the summer capture of 40-year-old keeper Gianluigi Buffon curing those problems, however great the Italian has been in the past.
Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani will always cause problems in attack, but we still prefer 4/1 for the hosts to prevail 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 in our Liverpool vs PSG betting tips.
Tottenham 1-2 LIVERPOOL – Georginio Wijnaldum, Roberto Firmino
PSG 4-0 St Etienne – Julian Draxler, Edinson Cavani (pen), Angel Di Maria, Moussa Diaby
Head-to-head: Liverpool 2-0 PSG, PSG 3-0 Liverpool
