Kick Off: 1945, 07/06/2017

Stadium: Allianz Riviera

Italy’s international friendly against Uruguay on Wednesday is expected to lack the ‘bite’ of their last clash at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

That encounter featured plenty of late drama as Diego Godin scored an 81st-minute winner soon after Luis Suarez had a nibble on the shoulder of Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini.

We reckon the Azzurri will be the more focused of the two teams this time, though, and are taking 23/20 for a home win in our Italy vs Uruguay betting tips.

A Look At Italy’s Betting Odds

Giampiero Ventura has touched on a desire to do well in this friendly in order to boost Italy’s position in the FIFA rankings, just in case they need to compete in a World Cup play-off.

The Azzurri are currently joint top of Group G with 13 points from five games but have already played fellow table toppers Spain at home, drawing 1-1 in Turin last October.

Ventura fielded an experimental side in last week’s 8-0 demolition of San Marino but the vibes are he is taking this fixture more seriously, albeit while again trying out an attacking 4-2-4 formation.

Looking at the Italy vs Uruguay odds, 11/4 for a home win and over 2.5 goals in the game is a tempting price.

A Look At Uruguay’s Betting Odds

Uruguay went into Sunday’s game against the Republic of Ireland without Suarez due to injury and lost Edinson Cavani early on following a challenge from Burnley’s Kevin Long.

Ireland went on to run out worthy 3-1 winners in Dublin but Jose Gimenez did bag an opportunist goal and Martin Cacares headed against the woodwork, so it wasn’t a negative display from the South Americans.

With their next World Cup qualifier not coming until Argentina visit on August 31, Uruguay can afford to play with freedom again here and that could make for another entertaining encounter.

We’re completing our Italy vs Uruguay predictions by taking 15/4 for a home win and both teams to score.
