Israel and Scotland are familiar foes in recent times and Sunday’s World Cup qualifier is their sixth meeting in the last two and a half years.
Last year’s three games in the Nations League and Euro 2020 qualifying were all tight affairs with just three goals scored.
We’re expecting more of the same this weekend so under 1.5 goals at 33/20 is our opening Israel vs Scotland prediction.
A Look At Israel’s Betting Odds
Israel began their campaign with a home match against Group F favourites Denmark and suffered a 2-0 defeat after Martin Braithwaite and Jonas Wind struck either side of half-time.
The home side’s defence was opened up too easily and Denmark could have won by a more convincing scoreline.
Braithwaite should have made the most of being put through on goal in only the 10th minute and he also struck the crossbar late on.
That was Israel’s first game since a 1-0 win at home to Scotland in November when Manor Soloman’s strike proved decisive.
That was some for revenge for the previous meeting in October which ended goalless before Scotland won on penalties in a Euro 2020 qualifying play-off.
These are two well-matched teams but neither are prolific and a goalless first half can be backed at 7/5 in the Israel vs Scotland odds.
A Look At Scotland’s Betting Odds
Scotland needed a late equaliser from John McGinn to rescue a 2-2 draw against Austria on Thursday so are under some pressure to get a first win on the board.
Sasa Kalajdzic twice put Austria ahead in the second half but Grant Hanley headed the first equaliser before McGinn struck with an overhead kick in the 85th minute.
Scotland boss Steve Clarke said: “I thought it was a good game between two good teams. When you have to come back twice, it shows the character in the squad and shows they want to be successful for their country.
“Although we wanted three points, having been behind twice we will take the point and move on to the next game.
“We created some good chances, got into good positions, fizzed a few across the face of goal and looked a threat going forward.
“On the flip side, we conceded two goals which we don’t normally concede too many so there’s a little bit of work to do defensively.”
Scotland’s matches are rarely so entertaining with their previous six games producing only six goals.
Four of those ended 1-0 to the home team which is tempting at 4/1 but for our final Israel vs Scotland prediction we’re going for exactly one goal to be scored at 29/10.
ISRAEL 0-2 Denmark
SCOTLAND 2-2 Austria – Grant Hanley, John McGinn
Head-to-head: Israel 1-0 Scotland, Scotland 0-0 Israel, Scotland 1-1 Israel, Scotland 3-2 Israel, Israel 2-1 Scotland, Israel 0-1 Scotland, Scotland 3-1 Israel, Israel 0-1 Scotland
