Ryan Giggs enjoyed a dream start as Wales boss with a 6-0 rout of China, but the honeymoon period could be over when they face Uruguay in Nanning on Monday.
The South American side qualified for this China Cup decider via a 2-0 success over the Czech Republic and look a stronger all-round outfit.
We’re kicking off our Wales vs Uruguay betting predictions by snapping up 21/20 for La Celeste to oblige in normal time.
A Look At Wales’ Betting Odds
Gareth Bale became his country’s record goalscorer in stunning fashion, with a hat-trick in the demolition of China helping him to eclipse Ian Rush’s previous best of 28.
“Anything you do for your country is the pinnacle, it is the biggest honour you can have,” beamed the Real Madrid star.
“But the most important thing for me and for us was to get off to a good start under the new manager – and I thought we played very well.
“We did exactly what he asked. There are still things to work on, but we’re happy with the way we’re going.”
A Sam Vokes double and a goal for birthday boy Harry Wilson completed the scoring, but we’re not getting too carried away by that victory against timid Chinese opposition.
Bale would grace any team in the world, but Giggs is aware that Wales lack strength in depth, especially with Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsey sidelined.
“Sometimes that has been an Achilles heel, if we have two or three players out then we struggle,” admitted Giggs. “We don’t want that any more.”
Looking at the Wales vs Uruguay odds, we like 13/5 for the South American side to win and both teams to score.
A Look At Uruguay’s Betting Odds
Uruguay have a day less to recover from Friday’s defeat of the Czech Republic, but Oscar Tabarez has the rock-solid squad to overcome that disadvantage.
Barcelona striker Luis Suarez blasted a 10th-minute penalty into the roof of the net after being brought down by Czech goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka.
La Celeste scored again after 37 minutes when PSG front man Edinson Cavani, adjudged onside by the assistant referee, struck a spectacular overhead kick.
The Czechs did have chances, as Antonin Barak forced Fernando Muslera into a smart save at the base of a post while Patrik Schick headed wide from six yards and later hit the crossbar.
That suggests Wales are capable of getting on the scoresheet, but Uruguay’s array of players based with high-ranking Spanish, Italian and Portuguese clubs look on a different level overall.
We’re finishing off our Wales vs Uruguay betting tips by taking 4/1 for the favourites to prevail 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 from the multiple correct score market.
