Champions League betting has taken an interesting turn, with odds for Bayern Munich to win the competition INCREASING after their first-leg defeat to Lazio yesterday.
After Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig and Manchester City dispatched of Copenhagen on Tuesday, Bayern Munich went into their first-leg tie with Lazio full of confidence, especially considering the German giants are viewed as one of the favourites for the entire tournament.
Ciro Immobile, formerly of Borussia Dortmund, had other ideas though. The Italian striker scored the only goal of the game, putting Bayern at a 1-0 disadvantage ahead of their second-leg tie in Germany next week, causing a major shift in the Champions League betting odds in the process.
Bayern, who were priced by bwin as the second-favourites to win the Champions League come June 2024 have now had their odds increased, with the bookies clearly not confident in their abilities to win Europe’s top cup competition for the first time since 2020.
Champions League betting
Going into the game, Bayern were 4/1 to win the Champions League, but those odds have changed after their loss to Lazio on Wednesday evening.
Now, coming out of their first-leg tie away at Lazio, Bayern are 7/1 to win the Champions League come the end of the season. That could change if they manage to get through their tie with the Italian side and progress to the next round, but as of now they’re now seen as the fourth-favourites for the competition.
The latest Champions League betting odds has Real Madrid now as the second-favourites. Los Blancos were 11/2 going into their game with RB Leipzig, but after picking up the win in Germany, they’re now 9/2.
Man City went into the knockout rounds as favourites for the entire competition. After a 3-1 win in Copenhagen, their odds have changed from 2/1 to 7/4, with the bookies clearly thinking that Pep Guardiola’s side has a good chance of retaining their title and being crowned the Champions of Europe for the second year running.
Arsenal are now the third-favourites, despite not even having kicked off their knockout round campaign yet. The Gunners travel to Porto next week for their first-leg, and have had their odds reduced from 6/1 to 11/2.
