AC Milan vs Napoli: Gli Azzurri simply rated class apart

Kick-off: 2000, 12/04/2023

Stadium: San Siro

TV: BT Sport

Napoli have been ultra-impressive in the Champions League this term, whereas AC Milan have had to scramble through to the quarter-finals.

Gli Azzurri have also been streets ahead of the Rossoneri in Serie A and have won their last three head-to-head meetings at the San Siro.

Everything points towards 5/4 for an away win being the way to go with our first AC Milan vs Napoli prediction.

Rossoneri below elite level

Milan struggled when returning to Europe’s elite club competition for the first time in eight years last term, finishing fourth in a pool featuring Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Porto.

They have clearly enjoyed more success this season, but a large part of that has been down to much kinder draws.

The Rossoneri secured second place in their group thanks to picking up 10 points out of 12 against RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb.

However, it is hard not to feel that going down 3-0 and 2-0 to table toppers Chelsea exposed their limitations.

In the round of 16, Stefano Pioli’s side beat Tottenham 1-0 at the San Siro before drawing 0-0 in London, but both matches lacked quality.

Milan have some fine players, with Sandro Tonali a very promising holding midfielder and Rafael Leao an exciting talent on the left wing.

Overall, though, they are either just below elite level or have seen better days, as in the case of front men Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who have 77 years between them.

Gli Azzurri have edged out the Rossoneri by one goal on three straight trips to this venue and are 14/5 to do so again in the AC Milan vs Napoli odds.

Napoli now the finished article

Napoli have had some eye-catching individuals for several years and everything seems to have come together for Luciano Spalletti this season.

Gli Azzurri made an early statement of intent when thumping Liverpool 4-1 at home in their opening group-stage fixture.

Four more impressive wins followed, with Rangers brushed aside 3-0 twice and Ajax thrashed 10-3 on aggregate, including a 6-1 romp in Amsterdam.

A 2-0 loss at Anfield on Matchday 6 did little to spoil that campaign or alter the view that Napoli are major players in this competition.

The added pressure of performing in the knockout rounds did not affect Spalletti’s free-flowing outfit as they eased past Eintracht Frankfurt.

Hot prospect Victor Osimhen netted three times over both legs as the Bundesliga side were beaten 2-0 in Germany and then 3-0 in Italy.

The 24-year-old Nigeria front man has been linked with a big-money move to Chelsea or Manchester United over the summer.

Georgia playmaker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, 22, has been the other outstanding player to attract numerous suitors among Europe’s most powerful clubs.

Just as significant, however, has been the fearless approach of a supporting cast performing with great confidence and self-belief.

In running away with the Serie A title race, Napoli have been especially prolific at the end of each half, leading 14-4 in the 15 minutes before the interval and 14-2 in the closing quarter of an hour.

Let’s add 3/1 for them to score between 30:01 minutes and half-time to our AC Milan vs Napoli betting tips.
