PSV vs Monaco prediction, betting tips & odds

Kick-off: 1930, 09/08/2022

Stadium: Philips Stadion

PSV held their own throughout the opening encounter with Monaco at Stade Louis II and are fancied to finish the job off on home turf.

There was little to choose between these sides in that 1-1 Champions League draw but the Dutch outfit returned to Eindhoven in a happier mood.

They are 2.3 to prevail in normal time at Philips Stadion and that is our initial PSV vs Monaco prediction.

PSV Eindhoven Odds

Joey Veerman had an early chance to put PSV ahead in France but shot wide while Monaco were denied a strong penalty shout for handball around the half-an-hour mark.

Veerman made amends for his previous miss when teed up by Luuk de Jong on the edge of the area and firing into the back of the net.

Former Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino had looked lively throughout the first half and should have levelled soon after the break.

He was put clean through on goal but pulled his shot and Guus Til almost doubled PSV’s lead at the other end minutes later.

Kevin Volland headed wide for the hosts but Axel Disasi finally equalised on 80 minutes when a flicked-on set-piece fell to him in the box and he struck from close range.

Overall, though, Ruud van Nistelrooy will have been pleased with how his team handled that tricky test.

They had previously beaten Ajax 5-3 in the Dutch Super Cup and on Saturday opened their Eredivisie campaign with a 4-1 defeat of FC Emmen.

Looking at the PSV vs Monaco odds, we like 4.0 for a home win and both teams to score here.

AS Monaco Odds

Monaco can take heart from having won 2-1 at this venue in a Europa League group-stage game last October before drawing 0-0 in the return fixture.

They also got off to a winning start on the domestic front over the weekend, prevailing 2-1 at Strasbourg in Ligue 1.

Krepin Diatta and Sofiane Diop did the damage at Stade de la Meinau before Habib Diallo pulled one back.

The Monegasques finished last season strongly, including a run of nine straight wins in France’s top flight.

Losing highly-rated France youngster Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid for €80million was a blow but Minamino and Switzerland striker Breel Embolo are useful recruits.

We just feel PSV have a stronger spine to their team and are capable of shading another close encounter.

Let’s go with 9.0 for a 2-1 home victory to complete our PSV vs Monaco betting tips.
