The Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) is the highest-level professional club basketball league in Germany and consists of 18 teams that play each other in home and away matches during the regular season.

A BBL season runs from September to June and is divided into two stages: a championship followed by a second stage with playoffs for the top eight teams, while the bottom two are relegated to the Pro A.

The three rounds of the playoffs are played on a best-of-five basis, with the top-ranked team from the regular season playing the first, third and fifth games at home.
