Champions League qualifying

You can make bets on the Champions League football qualifiers, starting at the beginning of June. The qualification phase is divided into five steps including the preliminary round, three qualifying rounds, and the play-offs. Making bets on the Champions League with bwin is a great way to gamble.

Betting on the Champions League qualifiers

On the starting line, about 50 European federations will participate in the Champions League qualifiers.

The draw is made at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon at each stage. During the draws, the qualified teams are separated into the top seeds and the non-seeds, according to the UEFA coefficient of each team over the last five seasons. Teams with a continuous European history over the last five seasons are thus favoured. Make your football bets on every match with competitive teams that will put their best formation on the field to reach the group stage.

Five stages to reach the group stage

Each stage includes more and more prestigious European teams.

The preliminary round is for the four teams based on their 2022 UEFA club coefficients. The winner of the preliminary round final will advance to the first qualifying round. The losers will be transferred to the Europa League and the Champions Path second qualifying round.

The first qualifying round will include 30 teams: 1 from the preliminary round and 29 other teams - once again, based on their 2022 UEFA coefficients.

The second qualifying round will have a total of 24 teams, including the 15 qualifiers from the first qualifying round and runners-up from other championships. It is in this second qualifying round that the losers are drawn into the Europa League qualification. Bet on the Europa League, a European competition officially supported by bwin.

There will be a total of 20 teams for the third playoff round, including 12 qualifiers from the second round (10 from the Champions Path and 2 from the League Path). As a result of the play-offs, only seven teams will participate in the group stage of the Champions League, the most prestigious club competition in the football world.

The league route and the champions route

From the third qualifying round onwards, the teams are separated on another point: the Champions Path, which protects the champions of the smaller UEFA nations, and the League Path. The League Path is much more competitive with teams that did not qualify directly for the group stage. However, these are still good European leagues like the Netherlands or Portugal. Make your bets on the Liga Portugal with bwin - a championship sponsored by our online betting platform.

Between the start of the preliminary round and the end of the play-offs, that's almost eighty matches over two months.
