Croatia only need a point to wrap up top spot in their World Cup group but we’re backing them to claim a third straight victory at Russia 2018 when facing Iceland.
The Blazers may feel they have a score to settle after finishing second behind Tuesday’s opponents in qualifying for this tournament.
Zlatko Dalic will also be keen to maintain the momentum built up so far and 13/10 for his side to prevail is our first Iceland vs Croatia prediction.
A Look At Iceland’s Betting Odds
Iceland showed plenty of spirit to draw 1-1 with Argentina in their opening game, albeit aided by a tame Lionel Messi penalty miss.
However, they appeared to have their limitations exposed when beaten 2-0 by Nigeria in Volgograd on Friday.
The usually reliable Gylfi Sigurdsson wasted the chance to pull one back when blasting a spot-kick over the bar, but the Super Eagles could have added to their tally on several occasions.
Head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson said: “We’ve played Croatia four times in four years and we’ve often said we’re like a married couple trying to get divorced, but we always meet up again.
“They’ve had two really, really good performances in the World Cup. The last one was a shining example of how good Croatia is.
“But we were ahead of them in our (qualifying) group and have already beaten them once in Iceland.”
A Look At Croatia’s Betting Odds
Croatia put in a controlled performance to ease past Nigeria 2-0 and then really caught the eye in the second half of a 3-0 demolition of Argentina.
They were helped by Willy Caballero’s blunder for Ante Rebic’s opener but then Luka Modric fired in a stunning strike and Ivan Rakitic added a stoppage-time score.
Zlatko Dalic’s ploy to press higher up the field paid dividends and he said: “We knew that the last three of Argentina were a bit weaker and they would break down under pressing.
“The players did everything they were told. We had very good scouts analysing Argentina. We knew that they would play 3-4-3 and we adapted to that.”
That attention to detail suggests Dalic is unlikely to ease off and simply seek to grind out a draw here.
We’re finishing off our Iceland vs Croatia betting tips by taking 19/2 for the Blazers to oblige 2-0.
