England have never lost to Colombia and can continue that hoodoo over the South Americans by reaching the World Cup quarter-finals.
The Three Lions have won three of five previous meetings, including a 2-0 success at France 98, when Darren Anderton and David Beckham did the damage.
We’re taking 8/1 for a repeat of that scoreline in Moscow on Tuesday as our first Colombia vs England prediction.
A Look At Colombia’s Betting Odds
Colombia recovered well from an opening loss against Japan, when Carlos Sanchez was sent off early on, to top Group H.
Los Cafeteros were very impressive in beating Poland 3-0 and then edged out Senegal 1-0 thanks to Yerry Mina’s 74th-minute header.
However, England will have taken heart from the way Colombia were outmuscled by the Lions of Teranga for large parts of Thursday’s clash.
“I think we worked the set-piece very well and that was not a coincidence, as we have players who are excellent with their feet and with their head,” said coach Jose Pekerman.
“But there were also some very worrying moments, especially in the first half, when Senegal played very well and it was tough for us to maintain our identity.
“The match was tough because we couldn’t get the necessary control in central midfield to enable us to feed the right kind of balls to Falcao.”
England will also hope to unsettle Colombia with their high-pressing game and then be more creative than Senegal were up front.
A Look At England’s Betting Odds
England ended Group G as runners-up after losing 1-0 to Belgium in a game where both teams fielded second-string sides, so their key players should be nicely rested for the knockout rounds.
Gareth Southgate’s men had previously secured a last-gasp 2-1 win over Tunisia before thrashing Panama 6-1, with Harry Kane bagging five of those goals.
Southgate is confident England will rise to the “fantastic challenge” posed by Colombia and reach the last eight, where they would meet Sweden or Switzerland.
He said: “They’ve got some outstanding individuals, but I believe it’s a game we can win.
“It’s going to be a fantastic challenge for us. The numbers that they’ve got supporting them is clear and they have some outstanding individual players.
“But we feel that we’re a team who are improving…We are showing signs of being an exciting football team…we are young, enthusiastic, energetic, if not the finished article.”
We think the Three Lions can control this clash from the outset and are adding 12/5 for them to lead at half-time and full-time to our Colombia vs England betting tips.
