After their stunning victory over Manchester United in the last 16 of the Champions League, Real Madrid now face a two-legged quarter-final against Galatasaray – and star man Cristiano Ronaldo is confident they will progress.
When the Red Devils managed to claim a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu, many pundits suggested that Los Blancos’ dreams of a tenth European title would have to be put on hold for another season.
Their prospects looked even bleaker when a Sergio Ramos own-goal put United ahead in the return meeting at Old Trafford, but the tie was turned on its head when Nani was dismissed for a high challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa.
Luka Modric’s stunning long-range strike levelled the aggregate scores before Ronaldo – who had already scored a stupendous header in the first leg – pounced to give the Spanish giants a 3-2 triumph.
Although the Portuguese was visibly moved by the experience of returning to the club he left to join Real Madrid in a world-record £80 million deal in 2009, all thoughts of United have now been put to the back of his mind as the clash with Galatasaray looms large.
And in an exclusive interview with bwin ahead of Wednesday’s first leg at the Bernabeu, he revealed that the Real camp are feeling good about their chances of securing a semi-final berth.
“To be honest, I don’t feel any pressure. It’s going to be an important game, a difficult game,” he said.
“If we play the normal way we play in the Champions League, we’re going to have a great chance to win.”
Ronaldo also discussed how Real plan to stop in-form Gala front man Buruk Yilmaz, his admiration for team-mate Mesut Ozil and much, much more – simply open the video above to hear the full interview.
