Last week, we introduced the Manchester United Telepathic Football Challenge to the world. Now it’s time for the bits we didn’t show you first time around.
In case you missed it, the good folk at bwin decided to reunite treble-winning Red Devils strikers Andrew Cole and Dwight Yorke with one very specific question in mind.
Is the famously destructive partnership they forged during their time together at Old Trafford more instinctive than the ones shared by the 2013 vintage of Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck?
The challenge was swiftly laid down as all five gathered at United’s Carrington training complex, but with Cole and Yorke now retired, it didn’t seem fair to pit them into any kind of physical contest against Sir Alex Ferguson’s supremely fit current trio of goal-getters.
So how could we level the playing field? By using blindfolds, of course!
The ensuing footage, which includes, among other highlights, Rooney booting a ball into his own face but also scoring a cracking volley from a Welbeck centre, was pretty well received and you can watch it by clicking right here.
But was the battle between the Class of 1999 and the Class of 2013 really settled once and for all?
We think not, which is why we have now decided to release the outtakes to give you, as judges, more ammunition in a bid to choose the winners.
If you haven’t already started watching the video in the player above (why haven’t you?!) then we can give you a sneak preview:
– witness Rooney ramping up the tension right from the outset by mocking the storied Cole-Yorke axis as “one-dimensional”.
– watch the England man go on to declare that his connection with Hernandez is superior because while the Mexican and fellow finishing machine Cole are similar players, “I’m better than Yorkie”.
– check out some nifty footwork from all five players as we put them through their paces in a variety of blindfolded challenges.
And then when you’ve seen all the clips from both videos, we want YOUR view: which strike partnership showed greater telepathy?
