Leeds United will need to improve their dismal form against the top sides in the Championship if they want to make promotion a reality this season.
Luckily for the Whites, they can start to put that worrying trend right this weekend as they take on league leaders Southampton at Elland Road.
Of the ten fixtures played against the top seven sides in the league, United have picked up just three draws, tasting defeat in the other seven matches, and they can be backed at 2/1 to record victory over the Saints.
Nigel Adkins’ side have been priced as favourites to claim all three points at 5/4 in bwin’s 3way football betting market, while the draw can be had at 23/10 in what will be Neil Warnock’s first home game in charge of the Yorkshire club.
After a goalless draw away at Portsmouth last Saturday, United find themselves currently occupying tenth spot in the Championship, four points off the final play-off position with 13 league games remaining.
They were comfortably beaten 3-1 when the two sides met back on the opening day of the season at St Mary’s and will face another difficult task against the league’s most offensive team, who in Rickie Lambert possess the Championship’s top scorer.

The Saints head into the match on the back of successive victories, having seen off Watford 3-0 at Vicarage Road last weekend, which followed a 4-0 thrashing of Derby, to make it three wins and a draw from their last four league games.
However, they will need to improve their form against the league’s top-half sides on the road, with their five victories away from home so far this season coming against teams currently sitting in the bottom half of the table.
The last five league matches at Elland Road have all involved at least three goals and with Southampton’s attacking threat and Leeds having conceded 25 times in their 16 home league games, a goalless draw looks out of the question.
Over 2.5 goals has been priced at 17/20, while those looking for longer odds can back over 3.5 goals at 2/1 – a tempting bet when taking into consideration 12 of Leeds’ games this season have seen four or more goals.
With West Ham and Reading breathing down their necks and both sides having a game in hand, Southampton will see this as a must-win game and odds of 17/4 for them to win 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 in the multiple correct score market looks a great bet.
Punters who use their free £25 bet when joining bwin.com on this outcome would see a return of £131.25 should any of those results come through.
Recommended bet: Southampton to beat Leeds 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 @ 17/4
