This evening’s late kick off in Spain is a potentially highly attractive fixture with the expansive, attacking Real Betis hosting a Real Sociedad outfit still euphoric after winning their first Basque derby for nearly three years against Athletic Bilbao last weekend.
Though Betis have lost their last two matches conceding eight goals in the process, the points amassed from their opening four games, means a win for them this evening could lift them into the Champions League places. La Real are in a similar position, sitting on nine points from six matches, having won three and lost three games so far.
The problem for the team from San Sebastian is that their away form has been woeful, with Sociedad failing to win on the road since January, losing nine of their last 12 away matches.
Last season only bottom of the table Racing Santander won fewer away games than La Real and their poor form on their travels shows no signs of abating. It is also 12 matches since Philippe Montanier’s side kept a clean clean away from the Anoeta stadium, while Betis have managed to find the back of the net in each of their 17 home matches.
That statistic underlines the fact that the Estadio Benito Villamrin is an extremely difficult place to visit and while Betis have only won one game so far this season at their crumbling yet atmospheric stadium, they have caught the eye with some impressive performances in their opening six matches.
The price of 21/20 for a win for Los Verdiblancos looks like holding considerable value, especially when you consider Betis’ traditional strength at home, and La Real’s abysmal record on the road.
There may be no such thing as a home banker in football, but this comes pretty close, and with the generous looking price, a home win for Real Betis has to be Saturday’s Bet of the Day.
