Newly-promoted Norwich might have had their winning run in pre-season friendlies ended at Selhurst Park earlier this week, but manager Paul Lambert is convinced his side are on the right track ahead of their Premier League opener against Wigan on 13th August.
The Canaries lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening, bringing a halt to a run of three wins in a row.
However, Lambert has an indifferent attitude to friendly results, insisting that matches are all about building up fitness ahead of the start of the competitive season.
This suggests his side’s game against Southend United this evening may not be the foregone conclusion bwin’s 3Way football betting market makes it seem.
Norwich are 9/10 favourites to win the game, with a Southend victory priced at 5/2.
To make matters even more interesting, Southend have secured some encouraging results in their pre-season campaign so far.
The League Two side battled to a 1-1 draw with Championship outfit Ipswich last Friday and secured a 0-0 draw with Raith Rovers of the Scottish First Division on 17th July.
With this in mind, bwin’s odds of 47/20 on a draw look tempting.
A successful £25 free bet on Southend to draw with Norwich, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £83.75.
However, Norwich’s superiority is likely to tell in the end. Whereas the Canaries have a dismal record at Selhurst Park, they should have no such trouble against a side three division below them in the football ladder.
As such, a punt on Norwich to make their superiority tell and ensure the match features at least four goals could be the best option.
This bet is available at a price of 11/5, meaning a successful £25 stake would return £80.
