This weekend’s over 2.5 treble bet features the Championship play-off final, a feisty Scottish Cup final and a final-day fixture from France, with all three games looking set for goals.
West Ham v Blackpool – Over 2.5 Goals @ 3/4
West Ham meet Blackpool at Wembley on Saturday as both clubs aim to make a swift return to the Premier League via the dreaded play-offs. Respectively, they have been the second- and third-highest scoring teams in the Championship this season. Both league fixtures between these clubs featured more than 2.5 goals and the Hammers have found the net on 11 occasions in the last three meetings between these sides. This will not faze Tangerines gaffer Ian Holloway, who is a firm believer of the ‘we’ll score one more than you’ tactic and will often pick a starting XI with three genuine forwards. Sixty-four per cent of Blackpool’s league fixtures have finished with over 2.5 goals this season, which reflects Holloway’s managerial style. Add this to the fact that Hammers manager Sam Allardyce has the pick of some of the best strikers in the country outside the top flight, and you are left with a recipe for goals.
Hearts v Hibernian – Over 2.5 Goals @ 23/20
This Scottish Cup final sees an all-Edinburgh affair between Hearts and Hibs, and is just the second cup final in the last 15 years to not feature one of Glasgow’s Old Firm. It is being touted by many north of the border as the ‘most anticipated match in Edinburgh football history’ and is another game that promises plenty of goals. The last two league meetings between these sides have seen a combined total of six goals, with Hibs conceding the second-most goals this season in the SPL. Looking at more recent form, there have been a total of seven goals in Hearts’ last two games, whilst Hibs have managed to score in each of their last four fixtures, notching four times against Dunfermline on May 7th. Don’t be surprised to see three goals fly in at Hampden Park on Sunday.
Auxerre v Montpellier – Over 2.5 Goals @ 39/50
Auxerre welcome soon-to-be French champions Montpellier to the Stade l’Abbé-Deschamps this Sunday. La Paillade only need one point to be crowned Ligue 1 winners and they look good for at least a draw against already-relegated Auxerre. A lot of Montpellier’s success has been down to hotshot striker Olivier Giroud, who is the league’s joint-top scorer with 21 goals. Giroud is the only Ligue 1 player to have scored in each month of this season and Montpellier have scored in a league-high 34 games this campaign. Although now relegated, scoring has not been a problem for Auxerre, with their total of 45 goals more than anyone else in the bottom half of the table. AJA have also not lost at home to La Paillade since October 2003. Yet they have conceded 55 goals, and 51 per cent of their league games this campaign have featured over 2.5 goals due to their leaky defence. This would suggest there are more goals to come this Sunday, regardless of whether Jean-Guy Wallemme’s side manage to avoid defeat.
