By the time the clock strikes midnight, the Premier League will have delighted us for one last time in 2011, and some football betting fans could be more delighted than others if this treble comes in on Saturday.
Using the free £25 bet available for anyone joining bwin.com to back our three superstars could bring in a very welcome £308 at odds of over 10/1.
Nani to score against Blackburn @ 6/5
On the back of his hat-trick against Wigan at the weekend, and given that he bagged five against Rovers in this fixture last season, you would think that the obvious bet here would be on Dimitar Berbatov.
However, given boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s knack of asking the Bulgarian to take a seat on the bench, I think the safer wager here would be on the in-form Nani. The Portuguese attacker has been sensational for United in the past two seasons and also got on the scoresheet in last season’s 7-1 mauling of Blackburn at Old Trafford.
We could be set to see another thrashing on Saturday in the early kick-off and I would be surprised if Nani doesn’t hammer another nail into Steve Kean’s managerial coffin.
Robin van Persie to score against QPR @ 3/5
When it comes to anytime scorer bets these days, Robin van Persie is the messiah. Arsene Wenger may argue that the Dutchman is not the messiah, but is in fact ‘a very naughty boy’ as Van Persie failed to find the net in the 1-1 draw with Wolves on Tuesday. But then he is a Monty Python fan, so I’m told.
Being left frustrated by the Wanderers backline should just make RVP thirstier to score against QPR and end 2011 by adding to his incredible scoring record for the calendar year.
He needs to bag a hat-trick to break Alan Shearer’s current record of 36, which would not be out of the question, but for this treble he will only need to register one.
The only slight question mark is over whether he will start the game, but with Arsenal not exactly pummelling their recent visitors to the Emirates, the flying Dutchman will surely be required at some point if he is not in Wenger’s original line-up.
Gareth Bale to score against Swansea @ 5/2
The flying Welshman has continued his imperious form from last season and is well on his way to firing Tottenham into another Champions League adventure.
The White Hart Lane side have been near-unstoppable at times this season and the 2-0 win at Norwich on Tuesday showed the real swagger of a team who believe they can challenge at the very top.
At the middle of it all once more was Bale, hitting both goals at Carrow Road and generally running the show. Swansea don’t concede many at the Liberty Stadium, but the pace and power of the former Southampton man – especially in his new central role in a 4-2-3-1 formation – could prove too much as he returns to his home country. At 5/2, Bale seems to be a solid way to wrap up this particular treble.
