With Sunday providing top footballing action in Serie A, La Liga and the Bundesliga, this weekend could provide plenty of opportunities for a punt on some of Europe’s premier club sides.
Inter, Athletic Bilbao, Hoffenheim and Real Madrid are among the pick of the crop on the continent, with wins for the quartet providing a perfect accumulator additions for anyone seeking a bet with odds of around 4/1.
Inter Milan v Catania – Inter to win @ 7/10
Inter have had a horrible few weeks, with four straight league defeats leaving them well off the Serie A top-three pace and a 1-0 reverse in their Champions League last-16 first leg clash with Marseille.
That run of results has left boss Claudio Ranieri clinging to his job by a thread, with famously impatient Inter owner Massimo Moratti’s finger surely twitching on the trigger.
However, there is a must-win feel to the visit of Catania on Sunday and the Nerazzurri are worth backing to get the job done.
They have won all five of their previous home games against their latest opponents and simply must improve from their previous two outings at San Siro, which resutled in defeats to Novara and Bologna.
Inter may appear a risk but their odds-on price suggests that, like me, the bwin bookmakers are expecting them to get back on track with a much-needed three points.
Athletic Bilbao vs Real Sociedad – Athletic to win @ 13/20
Athletic Bilbao come into this game as heavy favourites, given their impressive record at home in La Liga of late.
Marco Bielsa’s team are unbeaten in 11 competitive games at San Mames and have scored three goals in each of their last three games at home in the Spanish top flight.
In contrast, Sociedad have picked up just two wins in their last 11 games on the road, with six goals conceded in their last two league matches away from home.
Earlier in the season, Bilbao took the honours in a 2-1 away win and with Sociedad winning just two of the last ten meetings between the teams, Bilbao look good for a victory at 13/20.
Hoffenheim vs Cologne – Hoffenheim to win @ 3/5
Hoffenheim fans will no doubt be feeling optimistic about the visit of an out-of-sorts Cologne team, particularly with an unbeaten home record going back nine matches in the Bundesliga.
Cologne come into the match having lost five of their last six competitive games, conceding ten goals along the way.
Their away record remains particularly poor too, with seven of their last eight games on the road ending in defeat.
Last time these teams met in the DFB Pokal, Hoffeheim came out on top with a 2-1 home victory and with odds of 31/50 available, backing another victory for them here could prove a shrewd move.
Real Madrid vs Espanyol – Real to win @ 3/25
Real Madrid’s fine home form in La Liga looks likely to continue against an Espanyol team with a dire record against Los Blancos in recent years.
Incredibly, Madrid have won each of the last six consecutive La Liga games against Espanyol, with the Barcelona-based club failing to score in any of these games.
Real, in contrast, have notched up 25 goals in their last ten games against Espanyol, including a 4-0 away win against the visitors earlier this season.
With Jose Mourinho’s team racking up a stunning 20 goals in their last five home matches in La Liga, backing Los Blancos to boost your accumulator at 3/25 is a no-brainer.
