The Black Stars made hard work of qualifying, finishing ahead of South Africa on goals scored in the group stage before they required the away goals rule to edge out Nigeria in the third round.
Ghana went close to becoming the first African side to reach a World Cup semi-final in 2010 when Uruguay striker Luis Suarez was sent off in the final minute of extra time for handling on the line with the scores tied at 1-1 but Andre Ayew shaved the bar from the penalty spot with the final kick of the game.
Uruguay went on to win the penalty shoot-out but Ghana will get the chance to avenge that defeat when they take on the South Americans in addition to Portugal and South Korea.
