Ecuador will make their fourth appearance at the World Cup since the turn of the century, although their place had been put in doubt when Chile alleged that Byron Castillo was ineligible because he was born in Colombia and had used a false passport to fool FIFA and CONMEBOL.
Chile stood to benefit from a favourable ruling but Ecuador’s fourth-placed finish was eventually confirmed and they will take their place alongside Netherlands, hosts Qatar and Senegal.
The Ecuador World Cup 2022 odds suggest they will be fighting it out with the Africans for second spot and a place in the knockout stage, something they achieved for the first and only time in 2006 when they lost 1-0 to England in the round of 16.
Gustavo Alfaro’s side concluded their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Argentina and they also picked up a point at home to World Cup favourites Brazil, so they should not be dismissed.
