The Indomitable Lions had a nervy qualification campaign, beating Ivory Coast 1-0 in their final winner-takes-all group game and needed the away goals rule to squeeze past Algeria in the third round which booked their spot in Qatar.
Former Liverpool defender Rigobert Song, Cameroon’s most-capped player with 137 appearances, was appointed head coach in March on the orders of the republic’s president Paul Biya, so the pressure is on to lead his players out of the group stage for the first time since 1990 when they lost to England in the quarter-finals.
However, they have been dealt a tough hand in the group stage where they will meet World Cup favourites Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland.
They failed to make it to Russia and have lost their last seven matches at the finals, so it is little surprise to see that they are outsiders in the Cameroon World Cup 2022 odds to reach the knockout phase.
