The future is bright for Coco Gauff but finding a way to beat Iga Swiatek in the French Open final is a formidable task at present.
World number one Swiatek is on a 34-match winning streak and is already a course and distance winner here, having claimed the title in 2020.
Bwin’s price boost of 1.75 for the favourite to win her first service game, the opening set and the match is our initial Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff prediction.
Iga Swiatek odds
Swiatek was sensational when winning at Roland Garros a couple of years ago and has looked back to that level this season.
The 21-year-old Pole has dropped just one set on route to the final, when edged out in an opening tiebreak by Qinweng Zheng in round four.
She took the next two sets 6-0 6-2, then lost only five games against Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals and a miserly three versus Daria Kasatkina in the semis.
Any chances of Swiatek suddenly being affected by nerves are slim, as she has won the last eight finals she has appeared in, including five this year in the run-up to this event.
“I’m just trying to treat these matches as any other matches because it is stressful and I accept that,” the world number one said. “But I want to keep doing the same work.
“I’m also aware sometimes my opponents are stressed, so I’m trying to kind of realise that and not panic about my own stress.
“Just kind of treating it as any other match and remembering why I got here and what my strengths are is really helping me.”
Looking at the 4.75 for the Pole to take the first set 6-3.
Coco Gauff odds
Having only turned 18 in March, Gauff bids to become the youngest American grand slam champion since her idol Serena Williams won the US Open in 1999.
She hasn’t been as dominant in matches as Swiatek but is yet to drop a set, with a tiebreak against Alison Van Uytvanck in round one the closest any opponent has come.
Elise Mertens, Sloane Stephens and Martina Trevisan were all solid foes brushed aside with the minimum of fuss.
Having burst onto the scene aged 15 at Wimbledon three years ago, when she beat Venus Williams on her way to reaching the fourth round, Gauff believes she is ready to win a major title.
“I think that version (of me) was ready to win a slam, but I think she almost wanted it too much, that she put way too much pressure on herself,” Gauff said.
“Now I’m definitely ready to win one but I’m not putting pressure on myself to win one. I think there’s a fine line between believing in yourself and almost pushing yourself too much.”
Gauff has been aware of Swiatek from their time in the junior ranks and this is an exciting final from the wreckage of a tournament which saw nine of the top 10 seeds eliminated before the end of the first week.
We’re hoping the American doesn’t get blown away and 2.2 for nine or 10 games in the opening set is another option for our Iga Swiatek vs Coco Gauff betting tips.
