AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2022 tips

Melbourne, January 17-30

We’ve got a great infographic examining whether anyone can stop Novak Djokovic from racking up a 10th win Down Under and the answer will probably be no! Melbourne was the scene of his first ever Grand Slam title back in 2008 and the Serbian superstar is hard to oppose at 2.5 as he chases his fourth successive Australian Open triumph.

Ash Barty has been knocking on the door in her home event over the past few years, reaching the semis in 2020 in between a couple of quarter-final appearances. Last year’s Wimbledon winner heads the Melbourne betting this term at 6.0 and will be a popular pick.

FRENCH OPEN 2022 tips

Paris, May 22-June 5

Age and injuries appear to be catching up with 13-time Roland Garros hero Rafael Nadal but we’re going to let our hearts rule our heads and hope the ‘king of clay’ still has one more victory in his incredible legs at 2.65. Stefanos Tsitsipas pushed Djokovic all the way in the 2021 final and has value appeal at 5.5, but nobody can stay with Rafa’s relentless pace on this surface if he is back to full fitness.

There have been six different female winners in Paris since Serena Williams lifted the trophy for the third time in 2015, so it is no wonder there is a wide-open betting market for the women’s singles. Iga Swiatek was the most impressive of those champions and won 22 straight sets at the French Open until she lost in the quarter-finals to Maria Sakkari last season when hampered by niggling injuries, so the young Pole gets the nod at 5.5.

WIMBLEDON 2022 tips

London, June 27-July 10

This is another event where it takes a brave person to oppose Djokovic at 2.0 after six past title triumphs, including the last three renewals. Matteo Berrettini showed a clear liking for grass when prevailing at Queen’s in 2021 and then taking a set off Djokovic in the Wimbledon decider, so 9.0 for the powerful Italian will tempt some.

Emma Raducanu shot to fame with some impressive early wins at the All England Club before suffering from breathing problems and her subsequent success at the US Open showed that was no flash in the pan. The Sports Personality of the Year winner will be roared on by the British crowds and 7.0 for an emotional triumph is worth taking.

US OPEN 2022 tips

New York, August 29-September 11

Djokovic ran out of steam when hammered in straight sets by Daniil Medvedev in the Flushing Meadows final last term and the Russian should return to the Big Apple even better prepared following that maiden major victory. Medvedev had previously been a runner-up to Nadal in the 2019 decider and reached the semis in 2020, so we can expect the supremely-fit athlete to shine again at 3.25 in the last event on the 2022 Grand Slam schedule.

Raducanu rightly earned rave reviews for her stunning September success in New York but runner-up Leylah Fernandez looks to have just as bright a future. The Canadian teenager battled past four strong seeds to reach the final, including Naomi Osaka and Aryna Sabalenka, so 19.0 she goes one better this time is tempting enough to feature in our tennis Grand Slam winners 2022 predictions.
