There will be a sell-out crowd at Rotterdam Ahoy as the Premier League travels to Holland for Week 7, with Phil Taylor taking on Dutch master Michael van Gerwen in the pick of the matches.
After missing out a fortnight ago due to a back injury, Van Gerwen returned to action in Glasgow last week with a fine 7-5 defeat of Kim Huybrechts, posting a three-dart average of over 106 in the process.
“I felt good and it was great to be back,” said Van Gerwen, who remains unbeaten in this year’s competition. “Kim played well, but you have to take advantage if he misses and I did that. It’s another two points for me and the crowd was nice, but next week in Rotterdam will be very special for me.”
If Van Gerwen does save his best form for this Netherlands leg, Taylor could be in trouble after suffering a first defeat of the campaign when going down 7-4 to Adrian Lewis in Scotland.
Van Gerwen is a prohibitive price to come out on top in most markets on this week’s Premier League darts odds, so we’re going for a correct score bet here and like 7/2 for 7-3.
Raymond van Barneveld picked up his second win of the season when edging out compatriot Jelle Klaasen last week and should go into his clash with Gary Anderson full of confidence.
The Scotsman has put together a series of rock-solid performances, but Barney beamed: “I’m more relaxed and want to enjoy myself – and I’m thinking in a positive way.”
This will be a tough test for Van Barneveld, but he has been doing well in the 180s department this season, topping the nightly charts twice in six rounds so far. We’re taking 51/50 he gets the first maximum in this match.
Klaasen is the weakest link of the Dutch trio, but we’re hoping the big home crowd can inspire him to climb off the bottom of the table with a 187/100 win over James Wade, who lost out to Dave Chisnall a fortnight ago and struggled with his doubles when beaten by Peter Wright last week.
