We’ve got eight great selections from York, Chester and Sandown in our latest ITV Racing tips to hopefully help punters bash the bookies.
Alongside a couple of Listed-class contests, there are a series of tricky handicaps, with David Clough providing horses to follow.
Chester 1.40 – REBEL AT DAWN
Kept on well from a prominent position to score at Nottingham last time out and similar tactics should suit running at the Roodee.
York 2.00 – CIVIL LAW
Connections have had to be patient with this four-year-old but the penny seemed to drop when he romped home by five and a half lengths at Newcastle and is now rated as one to keep on side.
Sandown 2.15 – ATALIS BAY (nap)
Marco Botti’s colt has prevailed in half of his eight career starts to date, having marked himself out as a very useful performer with a quick and emphatic hat-trick as a juvenile last summer.
He was then no match for the classy Winter Power in the Group Three Cornwallis Stakes at Newmarket and again found the same opponent too good for him when nonetheless a very creditable second at Listed level at York last month.
There was no shame at all in a second defeat, especially a very honourable one this time, behind a winner who is being touted as a lively threat to the mighty Battaash in the Group One King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot next week.
Atalis Bay, previously successful in tidy fashion on his return in a conditions event at Nottingham in April, has shown himself highly-effective at this minimum trip and in forecast quick conditions.
There is nothing quite of Winter Power’s calibre to outdo him in this Listed company and every reason to anticipate he can enhance his already admirable career record.
York 2.35 – MANIGORDO
Formerly a high-class performer for Richard Hannon, the son of Kitten’s Joy was gelded and changed hands for 25,000 guineas last autumn – moving north to Tim Easterby’s yard.
While his first start for new connections at Musselburgh was underwhelming, he stepped up big time to win at Thirsk in April.
He again failed to get involved here in May, but has since fared better with a third place at Hamilton.
The evidence of those four runs suggests Manigordo will be at his best on the forecast fast ground this weekend.
Sandown 2.50 – KING’S KNIGHT
Has been running consistently well this term and looks worth following in our ITV Racing tips now facing a slightly stiffer test of stamina.
York 3.05 – RANCH HAND
Impressed when landing the All-Weather Marathon Championship at Lingfield and far from disgraced in two Group Three contests on turf, so looks an ideal type for this Ebor trial.
Chester 3.20 – LOVE IS GOLDEN
Made all for a brave success over the same course and distance at the May meeting and has since put in another solid effort when second at Goodwood.
York 3.40 – SKYRUNNER
William Haggas is plunging the Invincible Spirit colt into a competitive handicap on just his fourth career start, following maiden and novice victories this season.
He had plenty to spare over the minimum distance at Pontefract last time – as his restrictive odds indicated he should – and on admittedly limited but very promising evidence, his early introduction to this sphere could be profitable.
