Winnipeg Jets vs Toronto Maple Leafs predictions

Face-off: 2000 ET, 05/12/2021

Venue: Canada Life Centre

Winnipeg have played better than their mid-table position suggests this season and could just catch Toronto at the right time here.

The Maple Leafs are on the road for the sixth time in seven matches and face a quick turnaround from last night’s overtime loss in Minnesota.

We think the hosts are a value bet as slight underdogs at 2.1 on the money line in our Winnipeg Jets vs Toronto Maple Leafs predictions.

Winnipeg Jets Odds

After a sticky spell where Winnipeg received little reward for some brave efforts, they made it two wins in three when running riot against New Jersey.

Mark Scheifele hit a hat-trick as the Jets finally found their shooting sticks in a spectacular 8-4 triumph over the Devils.

Nikolaj Ehlers bagged a brace, while Josh Morrissey, Adam Lowry and Kristian Vesalainen also netted.

“We had a tough stretch of hockey, but when you do the right things over and over, do the simple things, good things happen,” declared Scheifele.

In a see-saw battle, the Jets raced into a 3-0 lead, were then headed 4-3 but closed with five unanswered goals to claim the points.

Captain Blake Wheeler had three assists against New Jersey and will be determined to now mark his 1,000th NHL game with another win.

Looking at the 2.25 to provide at least one more assist.

Toronto Maple Leafs Odds

Toronto had rattled off five consecutive victories before being brought back down to earth at Minnesota.

In a hard-fought affair at Xcel Energy Center, the Maple Leafs were edged out 4-3 after a shoot-out by the equally red-hot Wild, who made it six straight wins.

Having trailed 3-0 early on, Toronto scored three unanswered goals in the second period before neither team could find a decider in the third.

Auston Matthews extended his goal streak to five games but it was Minnesota who eventually settled the issue.

That had to be a stamina-sapping night for the Maple Leafs, especially on the back of all their recent travelling.

Toronto will also be without forward Mitchell Marner after he took a knock in practice on Friday.

“Mitch is a guy you can’t replace,” Matthews said. “But we got a lot of guys here within our group, so no matter who it is, I got full confidence.”

Even so, we’re sticking with the Jets to win and under 5.5 goals at 4.00 in our NHL predictions.
