Winnipeg Jets vs St Louis Blues predictions

Face-off: 1500 ET, 19/12/2021

Venue: Canada Life Centre

St Louis won in a shootout when visiting Winnipeg last month and are rated a value bet to come out on top again at Canada Life Centre.

The Blues will travel in great spirits after claiming five wins in six matches and picking up at least a point in seven straight outings.

We’re on the underdogs to oblige by any method at 2.1 in our Winnipeg Jets vs St Louis Blues predictions.

Winnipeg Jets Odds

Winnipeg began the month brightly with three wins in four but have just faltered over the past week, which has coincided with an injury to Blake Wheeler.

The Jets went down 4-3 in a shootout at Vancouver before losing 4-2 to Buffalo and 5-2 to Washington on home ice.

Paul Maurice departed after the Sabres defeat and interim head coach Dave Lowry got off to a sticky start versus the Capitals.

Lowry insisted there had been some encouraging signs, stating: “When you put up 40 shots, you’re doing something right.

“I thought it might have taken us a little while to get it going but the second period I thought we did a good job of playing fast, managing the puck, creating opportunities.”

However, the 56-year-old has a lot to contend with in his first leadership role at this level.

Forwards David Gustafsson and Evgeny Svechnikov were injured in Friday’s loss while defenceman Nate Schmidt was sent home from practice on Saturday due to feeling unwell.

Looking at the 3.8 for the Blues to win and over 5.5 goals in the game, including overtime and penalties if required.

St Louis Blues Odds

St Louis have been flying up the Central Division table and go into this contest in third place, two spots and eight points above their hosts.

The Blues have benefited from home advantage for most of their current hot streak but have put in a couple of strong performances on the road.

Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice in Friday’s 4-1 defeat of Dallas at Enterprise Center while Ivan Barbashev had a goal and an assist.

Former Montreal Canadiens goalie Charlie Lindgren has also been a revelation since called up from the Springfield Thunderbirds, becoming the first shot-stopper to win his first five games for the club.

“The guys are battling hard for me,” said Lindgren. “It isn’t just about me, it’s about the team. Very excited about it but let’s keep it going.”

Tarasenko added: “Winning is fun. The atmosphere, the mood, the confidence, it’s great to keep winning.”

No team has scored more goals in the third period this season than St Louis with 40 while Winnipeg are down in 19th in that category.

Let’s finish off our NHL predictions by taking 4.33 for the Blues to win P3 and over 1.5 goals to be netted in that stanza.
