Toronto Maple Leafs vs Ottawa Senators predictions

Face-off: 1900 ET, 01/01/2022

Venue: Scotiabank Arena

Home advantage has proved crucial in two previous meetings between Toronto and Ottawa this season and we’re tipping that trend to continue.

The Senators prevailed 3-2 at Canadian Tire Centre in mid-October but the Maple Leafs gained revenge with a 3-1 Scotiabank Arena success two days later.

We reckon 1.91 for Toronto to oblige by more than one clear goal again here is the way to go in our NHL predictions.

Toronto Maple Leafs Odds

Due to Covid issues, Toronto will be playing for the first time since enjoying a 5-1 romp at Edmonton on December 14.

They return to action in third place in the Atlantic Division and have games in hand over Tampa Bay and Florida above them.

The Maple Leafs now have only defenceman Timothy Liljegren sidelined and head coach Sheldon Keefe is in an upbeat mood.

“It’s really nice to have the bodies back and see all those guys on the ice together,” he said after final practice for this contest.

“Not since pre-season have we had that group together and we’ll just have to see how they progress through the protocols.”

Toronto were scoring goals for fun before the extended Christmas break, averaging over five a game in their last eight wins and even netting three times in each defeat during an 8-2-1 stretch.

That makes 2.7 for a home win and over 6.5 goals in the game worth adding to our Toronto Maple Leafs vs Ottawa Senators predictions.

Ottawa Senators Odds

Ottawa must overcome the rustiness associated with a similar absence since going down 4-3 in overtime at Philadelphia.

The Senators are 22 points behind Toronto and second from bottom, although they have played two games less than the Maple Leafs.

That match against the Flyers left them with a road record of 4-8-2 and only three teams have conceded more times in the third period than their tally of 40, with just 20 scored in the closing stanza.

Toronto are 33-26 in the same section, so NHL odds.

Assistant coach Jack Capuano said: “With the time off, it’s almost like a mini training camp when you get back at it.

“We’ll have a few days to condition ourselves and work on the details of our game. We’ve got to utilise this break the best we can.”

This feels like a tough return test, though, and we’re taking 12.5 for a 5-2 scoreline.
