Philadelphia Flyers vs Ottawa Senators predictions

Face-off: 1900 ET, 18/12/2021

Venue: Wells Fargo Center

Ottawa have enjoyed an upturn in fortunes over the past fortnight but may just find an in-form Philadelphia outfit hard to live with.

The Flyers followed up scoring 15 goals in a hat-trick of wins with a shootout loss at Montreal which could easily have gone either way.

We think 2.0 for a home win in regular time is the percentage pick here for our Philadelphia Flyers vs Ottawa Senators predictions.

Philadelphia Flyers Odds

Carter Hart was in fine form with 38 saves when Philadelphia visited Montreal and there was a hint of bad luck about both goals conceded in normal time.

Max Willman and Jackson Cates with his first NHL strike earned the Flyers a point as it finished 2-2 after 60 minutes.

However, Jonathan Drouin scored the only goal of a three-round shootout to give the Canadiens the edge.

Philadelphia are now 0-3 in shootouts this season and will be keen to avoid letting this contest go to overtime.

The Flyers had previously impressed in a 6-1 rout of New Jersey at Wells Fargo Center and we like NHL odds.

Ottawa Senators Odds

Obviously, Ottawa can’t be opposed lightly following some outstanding results of late.

The Senators were a sorry 4-15-1 after being hammered by Vancouver at the start of the month but then won five of their next six matches.

Tampa Bay were brushed aside 4-0 and high-flying Florida incredibly smashed 8-2 on the road in the last two of those victories.

Thursday’s 2-1 loss against the Lightning at Amalie Arena was another creditable effort.

“We played real hard and I thought we had plenty of chances,” said head coach DJ Smith.

Goalscorer Thomas Chabot added: “The biggest thing for us is keeping our heads high.

“We battled until the end, had our chances all the way and we move onto the next game now. We’re taking pride in the way we’re playing.”

This is the final fixture in a tough three-game road trip over just four nights, though, so we fear the fatigue factor may hit Ottawa.

The Sens are 19-39 down in third-period goals this season, so if they do tire late on here, 2.2 for Philadelphia to win the closing stanza is worth adding to our NHL predictions.
