Edmonton Oilers vs Minnesota Wild predictions

Face-off: 2100, 07/12/2021

Venue: Rogers Place

Minnesota are on a six-match winning streak but all good things must come to an end and Edmonton are tipped to finally burst their bubble.

The Oilers are coming off a heavy defeat but have an excellent 9-2 overall record on home ice while the Wild can be poor travellers on occasions.

We reckon 2.25 for the hosts to prevail in regular time is the way to go with our Edmonton Oilers vs Minnesota Wild predictions.

Edmonton Oilers Odds

Edmonton suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season when following up a 4-3 loss in Seattle by crashing 5-1 to Los Angeles at this venue.

However, a late five-minute penalty for Connor McDavid allowed the Kings to cut loose with three goals in the closing stages of that contest.

Head coach Dave Tippett felt his team looked tired throughout and going a man down at that stage really took its toll.

A light practice on Monday will hopefully have allowed the Oilers to freshen up ahead of this test.

“It’s a good chance for us to reset,” declared McDavid, who has 10 points in five games.

“We had a good video session and we didn’t skate, so I think there’s a good chance to get a little bit of energy back.

“We don’t want to dismiss how we’ve played of late and need to get back to playing our game.”

Thanks to an earlier 16-5-0 run, Edmonton are still well placed in third in the Western Conference, three points behind leaders Minnesota with a game in hand.

Looking at the 2.35 they win the third period appeals.

Minnesota Wild Odds

It is never easy to oppose a side in such good form but there are a couple of question marks hanging over Minnesota.

Their last five victories have all come in front of their own fans, where they are now 10-2-0, compared with 7-4-1 away.

Sunday’s narrow triumph over fellow high-flyers Toronto was also a tiring contest, with the Wild blowing a 3-0 lead before shading it 4-3 via a shootout.

“I think we’re definitely showing everyone and ourselves that we can play with anyone,” said forward Jordan Greenway.

“We had a pretty big slip-up in the second and to find a way to come back and stick with it…I think it shows a lot of good characteristics about our squad.”

However, going back out on the road will be tough after feeding off a fantastic atmosphere at Xcel Energy Center.

The Wild will have to show great discipline as Edmonton have a superb powerplay record, leading the NHL with 24 such goals, compared to only 11 for Minnesota.

Let’s finish off our NHL predictions at Rogers Place by taking 7.5 for a home win by exactly two goals.
