Face-off: 2200 ET, 11/12/2021
Venue: Rogers Place
The Edmonton Oilers will hope to end a four-game losing streak when they welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to Rogers Place.
It will be the first of two meetings between these teams this season and the Hurricanes will seek to make it four victories in a row.
We are going with form on this one and think the visitors will prevail by two goals at 8.25 in our Edmonton Oilers vs Carolina Hurricanes predictions.
Edmonton Oilers Odds
Edmonton defenceman Kris Russell has been placed on injured reserve, with Philip Broberg called up from Bakersfield as a replacement.
The Oliers’ issues on the blueline should be eased next week with the return of Duncan Keith from his spell on the sidelines but this encounter with the Hurricanes will come too soon.
Edmonton’s strength lies with their offence and Connor McDavid to record over 1.5 points at NHL odds.
The Oilers rank fourth in the league with 3.48 goals per game and have the top powerplay at 32.5 per cent, but lie 22nd with a 0.86 goal share at 5-on-5.
So, the man advantage will be key for Edmonton and Leon Draisaitl and McDavid each have 45 points through 25 games.
The Oilers to score the opening goal in the first period at 2.15 is also worth considering in our NHL predictions.
Carolina Hurricanes Odds
Carolina defenceman Jaccob Slavin had a career-high 32:28 of ice time in a 2-1 overtime win over Calgary and will be relied upon again to keep Draisaitl and McDavid under control.
Ethan Bear is a doubt to face his former club as he struggles with illness and coach Rod Brind’Amour is calling for an improved performance from the one against the Flames.
He said: “We weren’t sharp – and that’s a good team that doesn’t give you much.
“It was just kind of a gross hockey game; it just wasn’t fun to watch and it wasn’t fun to be a part of, to be honest with you.
“But we dug in. We were battling, but we just weren’t very sharp. I thought we were a bit fortunate there, honestly.”
Nino Niederreiter has a three-game point streak and has registered eight in his last seven games, so we think he will again be a key component for Carolina to win with over 4.5 goals in the match at 2.45.
The Hurricanes are 11-3-1 on the road and they should carry that momentum and wrap up victory by winning the third period with both teams scoring in that stanza at 6.25.
Calgary 1-2 CAROLINA (OT)
EDMONTON 2-3 Boston
Head-to-head: Carolina 3-4 Edmonton, Edmonton 3-6 Carolina, Carolina 3-1 Edmonton, Edmonton 4-7 Carolina
