Calgary Flames vs Boston Bruins predictions

Face-off: 2200 ET, 11/12/2021

Venue: Scotiabank Saddledome

Calgary bashed Boston 4-0 on the road last month but most pundits will be expecting a closer contest when they meet again at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Both of these teams have been involved in a number of tight tussles since that TD Garden encounter and another is on the cards here.

We’re taking 2.6 for the scores to be level after the first period in our Calgary Flames vs Boston Bruins predictions.

Calgary Flames Odds

Calgary are sitting on top of the Pacific Division but go into this game under a bit of a cloud following three straight defeats.

The Flames followed up away losses at Vegas and San Jose by going down 2-1 in overtime to Carolina in front of their own fans.

Andrew Mangiapane admitted: “I don’t think we’ve been at our best. I think we’ve got to keep it simple and that will open things up for us.”

Playing 17 of their first 27 games on the road has put a bit of a strain on Calgary but a 4-2-4 home record still doesn’t read well.

Mangiapane is one of those who has struggled to produce his best form at the Saddledome, scoring only one of his team-leading 17 goals at this venue.

Looking at the NHL odds for this game, he is 1.78 not to hit the back of the net or register an assist.

Boston Bruins Odds

Boston have only lost by more than one goal once in eight outings since the Calgary defeat, going 4-2-2 to lie fifth in a hot Atlantic Division.

After a couple of overtime and shoot-out defeats, the Bruins produced a gutsy display to snatch a 3-2 success at Edmonton on Thursday.

Linus Ullmark made 41 saves and Matt Grzelcyk netted the deciding goal with just 2:33 left on the clock in the third period.

“We knew we had a back-to-back coming into a tough building playing one of the best teams in the league but we have a lot of character on this team, a lot of believability,” said Grzelcyk.

“We sort of adjusted before the game that we wanted to play with a little more urgency, play with some more passion.”

Only three teams have conceded fewer goals in the opening stanza than these sides, who have let in just 14 apiece.

That stat makes 4.2 for the score to be 0-0 at the end of the first period worth adding to our NHL predictions.
