Rangers vs RB Leipzig: Visitors rated class apart

Kick-off: 2000, 05/05/2022

Stadium: Ibrox

TV: BT Sport

Rangers showed great defensive resolve when only breached late on in a 1-0 loss at RB Leipzig in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.

However, they will now have to come out more at Ibrox and that could leave them open against the German outfit, who do look a class above.

We’re snapping up 2.0 for an away win in Glasgow for our initial Rangers vs RB Leipzig prediction.

Rangers Odds

Rangers only had 29 per cent of the possession at Red Bull Arena and had to rely on resilience at the back to keep out Leipzig.

Several defenders made brave blocks and 40-year-old keeper Allan McGregor was alert when needed.

Angelino eventually ended the resistance with a shot from the edge of the area in the 85th minute, but the Glasgow giants are still very much in this tie.

Ryan Jack went closest to scoring against the run of play in Germany and said: “There are mixed emotions after that.

“We gave ourselves every chance by going into the second half with the score 0-0 and then we got undone by a set-play, which is disappointing.

“But it’s still all to play for as far as we’re concerned and that’s the mentality we’ll take into next week.

“We’re going into the game at Ibrox with our fans behind us. We’ve done it before and we’re excited to try and do it again.”

However, Leipzig have won away at Real Sociedad and Atalanta in previous rounds, so clearly don’t suffer from travel sickness.

Looking at the Rangers vs RB Leipzig odds, we think 3.75 for the visitors to prevail and both teams to score stands out.

RB Leipzig Odds

Leipzig have had a disappointing domestic campaign and are only fifth in the Bundesliga table following defeats to Union Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach.

However, they were far from disgraced in a tough Champions League group, beating Manchester City and drawing with PSG.

Domenico Tedesco’s side have come through a couple of tough ties in this competition with flying colours, as well as receiving a bye versus Spartak Moscow.

Looking ahead to the second leg, the manager said: “They need a goal, so they have to open up. We are not looking forward with fear, but happiness.

“It’s a pleasure to play in such stadiums with a great atmosphere. I think Ibrox is special and we are happy to be there in one week.”

Christopher Nkunku could have had a hat-trick in the opening encounter and is clearly a player for Rangers to worry about.

The 24-year-old hit a treble at Manchester City among seven Champions League goals and recently bagged a brace away to Atalanta, as well as netting 18 times in the Bundesliga.

It is 6.0 for Nkunku to break the deadlock in an away win and that completes our Rangers vs RB Leipzig betting tips.
