Spain vs Portugal: Euro powerhouses hard to split again

Kick-off: 1745, 04/06/2021

Stadium: Wanda Metropolitano

TV: Sky Sports

Spain and Portugal step up their preparations for the Euro 2020 finals when meeting in a Madrid friendly at Wanda Metropolitano.

Both teams are among the favourites to lift that trophy and neither will want to suffer a psychological setback at this stage.

Having drawn their last couple of encounters, we’re going for another honourable stalemate here at 23/10 for our first Spain vs Portugal prediction.

A Look At Spain’s Betting Odds

Spain are odds-on to advance from Group E at Euro 2020, with their opponents being Poland, Slovakia and Sweden.

After disappointing at recent major tournaments, La Roja have rebuilt well under Luis Enrique and were unbeaten in qualifying, posting eight wins and two draws.

Last year’s Nations League event saw them top a table featuring Germany, with Die Mannschaft thrashed 6-0 in the closing round of fixtures.

Seven points from their first three World Cup qualifiers helped to maintain the momentum and Enrique’s squad is so strong he was able to leave out 180-times capped Sergio Ramos.

One slight weakness could be in the goalscoring department, even though Gerard Moreno and Alvaro Morata have enjoyed good campaigns at club level.

It was 0-0 when these teams met in Lisbon last October and Spain vs Portugal odds.

A Look At Portugal’s Betting Odds

European Championship holders Portugal will be braced for a tough test in Group F at Euro 2020 alongside France, Germany and Hungary.

They were only workmanlike in qualifying, finishing three points behind Ukraine when second in their group.

However, success in the inaugural Nations League competition on home turf was followed by a solid effort when runners-up to France in last year’s pool.

Even at 36, Cristiano Ronaldo remains the focal point up front, having scored 103 international goals and grabbing Golden Boot glory in Serie A last season.

His supporting cast is outstanding as well, with Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Diogo Jota and Joao Felix among the other attacking options.

An efficient midfield and a well-drilled defence, which could feature Manchester City duo Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo, only adds to Portugal’s impressive all-round stature.

Jota should be relatively fresh after missing three months for Liverpool over the winter and he netted three times in two games for the Navigators when returning in March.

Let’s go with 3/1 for him to score at any time to complete our Spain vs Portugal betting tips.
