Watford vs Newcastle: Magpies value to bounce back

Watford boosted their survival bid with a midweek win but are still in a serious relegation battle ahead of the visit of Newcastle.

The Hornets came from behind to beat fellow strugglers Norwich 2-1 on Tuesday but had taken just one point from their previous five matches.

Newcastle were thrashed by Manchester City in midweek but had previously been in good form and an away win at 7/2 looks great value for our opening Watford vs Newcastle prediction.

A Look At Watford’s Betting Odds

Watford must have feared the worst when they conceded an early opener to Norwich but they came from behind to earn a vital victory thanks to Danny Welbeck’s overhead kick.

It was a first win since the Premier League restart and lifted the Hornets four points clear of the relegation zone with four games left to play to ensure their top-flight safety.

On whether the three points would give Watford breathing space, boss Nigel Pearson said: “No, not breathing space. It’s an important win in the context that we’ve been unable to find a win so far.

“It’s not been easy to acclimatise but it’s a very important win for us. But we’ve now got four more games in which we need to pick up points to keep ourselves up.

“We don’t have an opportunity to not stay focused, it’s really important.”

With the pressure on Watford to go for another win, this could be an open game while the goals have been flowing in Newcastle’s matches recently.

With that in mind, we’re backing over 2.5 goals at 19/20 in the Watford vs Newcastle odds.

Last Watford line-up: Foster, Dawson, Masina, Kiko, Kabasele, Doucoure, Hughes, Capoue, Deeney, Welbeck, Sarr.

A Look At Newcastle United’s Betting Odds

Newcastle will want to quickly banish the memory of their 5-0 drubbing at Manchester City in midweek.

Their cause was not helped by a raft of injuries with manager Steve Bruce forced to make six changes but he conceded that his side were outplayed.

He said: “We are disappointed but I have to say they were far too good for us. We have got to be brutally honest and say we did not do enough to lay a glove on them.

“We knew we were up against it. We can’t be without six or seven of our better players, especially when you come to a place like this, but I don’t want to use that as the excuse.

“We have to be better than that. It was too easy for them from the first whistle to the last. If we play like that here we are going to get beaten and we were.

“They were far too good for us in all departments but the manner of it upsets me greatly. I wanted us to put on more of a show than we did.”

That was Newcastle’s first defeat since the season resumed, though, taking eight points from their previous four games including impressive wins against Sheffield United (3-0) and Bournemouth (4-1).

Assuming Bruce is able to put out a stronger line-up at Vicarage Road, the value is with the visitors to produce a response and we’re backing them to win 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 as the last of our Watford vs Newcastle betting tips at 33/4.

Last Newcastle line-up: Dubravka, Schar, Krafth, Fernandez, Yedlin, Rose, Shelvey, Ritchie, Lazaro, Bentaleb, Joelinton.
