Nations League outright winner odds & predictions

Memphis Depay and the deadly Dutch are blazing a trail in Group A4 and are favourites to lift the trophy next summer in the Nations League outright winner odds.

England and world champions France have no chance of making the final four after stumbling their way through the frantic four-game spell at the start of this month.

Wales are heading to the World Cup in November but their Nations League run won’t stretch to next summer, while Robert Lewandowski’s Poland are also left playing solely for pride.

Of the four teams out of the reckoning, only Poland posted a victory this summer – over the Welsh – with England losing twice to Hungary and France crashing at home to Denmark and Croatia.

So, how does all that leave the tournament?

Very nicely poised is the honest answer, with no team running away with their group and plenty still in contention.

The competition has had more than its fair share of criticism since launching in 2018 but it is wide open with two rounds of pool games – scheduled for September – remaining.

The Netherlands head the betting after three wins and a draw in their section, with Louis van Gaal’s side quoted at 4.5, just ahead of joint-second favourites Germany and Spain on 5.5.

Holland on a hot streak

Veteran Dutch boss Van Gaal has the Oranje in fine form, playing tidy football but digging in and finding ways to win when they have to.

They enjoyed a 4-1 win away at much-fancied Belgium, who are 8.0 in the Nations League outright winner odds, but twice had to score late goals to see off Wales.

Barcelona forward Depay has scored three of his team’s 11 goals over the four games to sit out in front on his own in the scoring charts.

The Dutch are comfortably the most prolific of all the teams in Nations League A and, of all the sides at the head of the betting, they look the most likely winners.

Belgium have managed nine goals but six of those came in one thumping win against Poland and they did suffer that heavy defeat at the hands of their neighbours.

Germany only burst into life in their fourth game, halting a run of three straight draws with a 5-2 victory over Italy, who look nothing like the team who won the Euros just a year ago.

Hungary, 4-0 winners over the Three Lions at Molineux, can still be backed at 34.0 with a home game against Germany and a trip to Italy to come.

Denmark, who are looking down on Croatia, Austria and France in their section, are available at 8.0.

Portugal, Nations League champions in 2019, are just behind them at 9.0. They boast the meanest defence with just two goals conceded but trail rivals Spain by a point.

The two meet in Braga in the final Group A2 game on September 27 and the big dates for the diary after that are June 14 and 15 for the semis and June 18 for the final, with venues yet to be decided.
