Rangers vs Malmo: Big Ibrox crowd to inspire Gers

Kick-off: 2000, 10/08/2021

Stadium: Ibrox

TV: Premier Sports

Rangers have given themselves work to do when entertaining Malmo in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier after losing 2-1 in Sweden.

However, they have a formidable home record in Europe since Steven Gerrard took charge and get the nod to turn things around at Ibrox.

We like 6/4 for a home win to nil as our first Rangers vs Malmo prediction.

A Look At Rangers’ Betting Odds

The opening leg was a cagey contest for long periods, but Soren Rieks and Veljko Birmancevic caught Rangers napping at the start of the second half.

Steven Davis gave the Scottish champions a lifeline deep into stoppage time, though, and they can show their true worth back in Glasgow.

“I’m disappointed with the result and the goals we conceded, but that was a big moment at the very end of the game and it sets it up for next week,” Gerrard said.

“It’s not the position we wanted to be in but it’s obviously a lot better than going in at 2-0 and we were also on the verge of maybe going in even worse as well.

“I’m going to call on the Ibrox crowd. I’ve never done it before but we are going to need them next week, for a full 90 minutes, in full voice.

“And with that behind us, and a mentality change, then that injury time could be a big moment.”

Losing 1-0 at Dundee United in domestic action on Saturday was another blow, but having a capacity crowd allowed at Ibrox could still be crucial.

Looking at the 7/1 for a 2-0 home win takes the eye.

A Look At Malmo’s Betting Odds

Malmo do have the advantage of being almost halfway through their domestic campaign, currently trailing only Djurgaardens in the Allsvenskan table.

The Swedes are also no strangers to upsetting Scottish teams in European competitions.

They knocked Rangers out in the preliminary rounds 10 years ago, beat Celtic in 2015 and hammered Hibs 9-0 on aggregate in the Europa League in 2013.

Despite all that, their overall play failed to impress last week and the feeling is that Rangers are a cut above if finding top gear.

Gerrard added: “At half-time, we were in a good shape and looking more likely, but we lost our way for four-to-five minutes and lost two goals.

“We never really cleared our heads after the first goal and were punished again.

“I’ve told the boys, my honest opinion is there’s six or seven who need to raise their level and raise it sharply.”

Rangers should strip just that little bit fitter and sharper this Tuesday night, though, and we’re keeping the faith.

Gerrard’s side claimed four wins and a draw from their first five European home games last term.

Let’s finish off our Rangers vs Malmo betting tips by taking 13/4 for Draw HT/Rangers FT.
