The tough run of fixtures for injury-hit Leeds continue on Sunday when they head across the Pennines to face title contenders Liverpool.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men are missing key players and that has contributed to them conceding 14 goals in three successive defeats against Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.
They can be forgiven for fearing the worst at Anfield and a home win by three goals or more at 1.95 is our opening Liverpool vs Leeds prediction.
The Reds will be determined to get back to winning ways after having to settle for a 2-2 draw at Tottenham in their previous Premier League game.
Spurs were playing their first fixture in a fortnight following a coronavirus outbreak while the Reds were without four of their players, but both sides put on a festive treat.
Liverpool were 2-1 up after Diogo Jota and Andy Robertson goals cancelled out Harry Kane’s early strike and heading for the three points until goalkeeper Alisson Becker failed to connect with a clearance and Son Heung-min rolled home into an empty net.
Robertson was then sent off for a wild kick on Emerson Royal after VAR upgraded his yellow card and the left-back will be suspended this weekend.
Kostas Tsimikas is an able deputy, though, and Liverpool have conceded just one goal during a run of six consecutive home wins in the Premier League and Champions League.
Looking at the 2.05 for a home win to nil is good value.
Last Liverpool EPL line-up: Alisson, Konate, Robertson, Matip, Alexander-Arnold, Milner, Keita, Jota, Morton, Mane, Salah.
Leeds United Odds
Leeds were missing 10 senior players against Arsenal at the weekend and the Gunners took full advantage with a comfortable 4-1 win.
Bielsa gave teenage striker Joe Gelhardt his second Premier League start while two more youngsters, Sam Greenwood and Liam McCarron, made their top-flight debuts off the bench.
Archie Gray, 15, a great-nephew of former Leeds boss Eddie Gray, was named among the substitutes.
Bielsa, without an 11th first-team player when Jack Harrison was forced off in the first half due to a bruised hip, has done his best, publicly at least, to play down his injury crisis.
He said: “The type of injuries that we’ve had, if you look over them, they are injuries in the tendons of the muscles, in the lower part of the feet, injuries in the bones of the shoulders.
“And apart from (Patrick) Bamford, who got injured celebrating a goal, and (Daniel) James, who got injured in the last game, they’re not injuries linked to being tired or due to an accumulation of activity.”
Leeds were 3-0 down by half-time, just as they were in a 7-0 drubbing at Manchester City four days earlier.
With Bielsa showing no temptation to change his team’s style of play, we fear they could suffer a similar fate at Anfield so the hosts to lead 3-0 at half-time at 9.25 is the last of our Liverpool vs Leeds betting tips.
Last Leeds line-up: Meslier, Ayling, Koch, Drameh, Forshaw, Dallas, Harrison, Klich, Raphinha, Roberts, Gelhardt.
